The sixth of a progressive programme of winter white water trips will be on the Teign. We'll put in at A382 bridge at Chagford (possibly walk up the river to make the most of a boulder garden) Straight into a longish rapid so good basic ww skills are necessary. Plenty rocks, drops, trees and a sometimes very unattractive weir on the trip to avoid/check out. Breaking out/ferry gliding skills are essential. It's less paddled and always feels a bit remote but pub at end makes for good pre-Christmas lemonade.
As always we need loads of experienced paddlers/throwlines.
Meet at the club to leave by 08.00 (the early bird gets the best boat and if is your first trip you may find it takes a little longer to get ready) . It's about a 2:30 hour (105 mile) drive plus we need to run a shuttle, be prepared for a few swims and have a good safety margin to ensure we are off the river before it gets dark. We may be home between 16:00 - 19:00.
Please register if you intend to come, it has boat carrying details, plus emergency contact details that make it a little easier for the organisers.
What to bring -
Warm paddling kit, by now you will need a decent cag to keep you warm and dry. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet & Cupid to speed up shuttle run.
A hot drink will be a must have - an unbreakable flask (attached) in the back of your boat.
Food - high energy food in a dry bag (flapjacks/Mars bars/banana are good)
Dry warm clothes to get changed into post paddle.
Transport
We share the cost of the fuel (210+ miles so could be around £30-£40 per car) and chips for river leader.
