An opportunity to prepare for the upcoming winter white water season. Probably not a long trip, after a short warm up it'll be time to take on the Yat rapids.

Symonds Yat is a fairly safe (it's moving water with rocks so never completely safe!) 50 metre stretch of gentle rapids that you can run and then carry boat back up to run again until exhaustion sets in.

You will get to try out the magical breaking in and out and a bit of ferry gliding,

if you're lucky you may even take a refreshing swim. If you do swim you’ll be in excellent company, many first time ww paddlers in the club have spent a jolly day floating down the mighty Yat and most survived and went on to be grade 4-5, waterfall paddling, happy paddlers (or even the club’s coaches)

We will be running a programme of white water trips from September, but it is far better to learn the basics at the Yat than a cold October river in Devon/Wales.

Unlike most white water trips this has pubs, toilets and ice cream shops.

As always we need loads of experienced paddlers/throwlines/cakes.

Meet at the club to leave by 09.00  there could be many other clubs preparing for the winter white water season so it does get busy at midday.

On average it's about a 1:15 - 1:45 and 64 mile drive. Depending on paddlers energy levels or time spent in pub we may not be home much before 18:00.

Please register if you intend to come. It will log your experience, if car has boat carrying capability and emergency contact details that make it a little easier for the organisers.

What to bring - the usual stuff but not forgetting:
Warm paddling kit as it could be cold?
A cold/hot drink could be a must have - an unbreakable flask or drinks bottle (attached) in the back of your boat.
Food - high energy food is best (flapjacks/Mars bars/banana are good)
Dry warm clothes to get changed into post paddle.
At least one GBBO technical challenge home-made cake for Martin.

Getting there:
We share the cost of the fuel (130+ miles so could be around £20-£35 per car). We'll also have parking/launch to pay for.
