There is a pretty bit of coast between Bigbury and Plymouth and this trip launches on one of the small estuaries.  The launch site is is quite tight but is definitely achievable.  From the Erme the coast is rugged all the way to Wembury with only a couple of landing sites.

We should be on the water by about 10:30 which will mean getting there about 09:30.  The car park is at PL8 1LB, grid SX 612 477, https://w3w.co/watching.tent.condensed.  If you are quick it is possible to drop boats off at the end of the road but there is still a short walk down a path to the beach.  Note the road serves the coastguard cottages and so must not be blocked..

I'll send out instructions to registrands a few days before the trip.

You must satisfy yourself that this trip is suitable for you, that you are sufficiently experienced, able and willing to paddle at the advertised level. For detailed guidance, see trip categoristion. If in doubt, seek guidance from the advertised leader before registering.

You must register if you intend to come. Places are restricted in an effort to maintain an acceptable leader/participant ratio. When the list is full names can still be registered as reserves and the leader will notify you if you may join the trip.

If you change your mind, that's okay! But please contact the leader and the trips officer as soon as you know so that someone else can register in your place.

If you want to know more about how trips are conducted see trip routine.

You must bring suitable equipment or make arrangements for someone to bring it for you (eg. kayak). See what to bring.

You are advised to book a club boat, if you don't have your own.  Choose the boat most suited to you and then write the booking on the white board in the club basement store.

Studland is a great place to paddle.  The beach is normally sheltered from the SW winds and swell and the paddle out to Old Harry Rocks and then perhaps on to Swanage passes the beautiful chalk cliffs.  If places fill up quickly please continue to sign up so I can get helpers to increase numbers on the water and then update your registration.

We should be on the water by about 10:30 which will mean getting there about 09:30.  We meet at Knoll Beach National Trust car park, just south of the café by the beach huts: BH19 3AQ, w3w ///slurred.sensual.afflicted,  OS Grid Ref: SZ 033 835.

When the conditions are good this is a fabulous trip out to the Needles.  It's not a long distance paddle but the turbulent waters off Hurst Castle un-nerve many on the return trip, hence intermediate grading.

This popular trip will take us up the purbeck coast to Kimmeridge, perhaps even as far as Chapman's Pool if the will takes us.  This can be an easy trip but if the wind picks up there can be some challenges.

Lulworth Cove car park is at BH20 5RS, grid SY820801.  It is possible to drive down to the Cove to off-load boats but be prepared for a long reverse back up the hill avoiding pedestrians.  Trolleys are normally the best bet.

Let's plan to meet there at 09:30 and aim to be on the water by 10:30.  That will give us about 2 hours of flood tide and then we can be eased back home on the ebb.

You must satisfy yourself that this trip is suitable for you, that you are sufficiently experienced, able and willing to paddle at the advertised level. For detailed guidance, see trip categoristion. If in doubt, seek guidance from the advertised leader before registering.

Sidmouth trips are normally planned to coincide with LW and this is no exception.  The cliffs along the coast are varied, there are interesting stacks, and then the potential delights of Budleigh Salterton for lunch.

The launch point is on the beach at the westerly end of the esplanade, EX10 8RZ, SY123870.  Follow the road west, up the hill and there is free parking on the road and a large car park on the north side of the road 500m from the launch/drop off.

The tide turns about 12:00 so we need to be on the water smartly by 10:30 so let's meet no later than 09:30.

We normally go to St David's area for our Pembrokeshire week-ends but the tides seem to be good for the north Pembrokeshire coast.  It's a great paddle around Dinas island and then NE along the coast.  The westerly stream starts at Milford Haven + 4 hrs which means on Sat is around 12:00 and an hour later on Sun.

My outline plan is to camp at Dinas Island Campsite, SA42 0SE, Grid SN 010 402.  Aim to travel on Fri so that we can start reasonably early on Sat - but not unreasonably early!  There is a reasonable pub at the beach.

With reasonably strong tidal streams and few landing sites this trip is graded Intermediate.

Kimmeridge, and the Dorset coast in general, is a popular choice for paddling.  If the conditions are gentle it is possible that we could launch from Swanage and paddle the stretch of coast towards St Alban's Head but that is a very commiting trip with few exits.

Use the car park by the toilet block having dropped your boat by the slipway. BH20 5PE, w3w ///jammy.winners.speedy, OS Grid Ref: SY 910 787.

Let's plan to meet there at 09:30 and aim to be on the water by 10:30.  That will give us less than 2 hours of ebbing tide but these are weak neap tides.

This course is for people new to paddlesports. It takes trainees to a level that enables them to join a range of Bath Canoe Club trips. It consists of 6 weekday evening river sessions every Thursday, 6.00 pm until 9.00 pm.

In addition to the course you will also get a full years membership so that you can continue paddling afterwards on club activities.

The course is open to all ages 14 years and over but under 18s must be accompanied on the course by a parent or guardian.

    What is the Discover Award?

The Discover Award allows you to develop your decision making and practical skills for a fun and safe time on the water, as you become a more skilled and independent paddler. Through this award you will learn how to choose and effectively use equipment, whilst developing an understanding of the factors which affect your paddling.

    Who is it for?

Anyone of any age who want to develop their skills on the water. You don’t need any previous experience to take your Discover Award, just the desire for fun and learning! You can take the award from any craft, from kayaks, canoes, sit-on-tops.

Why should I do the Discover Award?

If you want to develop your skills from your Start Award, or feel like you need to expand your basic paddling knowledge further, this is the award you need. The award covers topics such as:

    1. Encouraging independent decision making on different bodies of water (moving river, canal, estuary, harbour), covering safety and weather aspects too
    2. Preparing for self-guided adventures
    3. Equipment you will need for a variety of paddle trips
    4. Further developing your canoe and kayak paddling and rescue skills
On completion of the course we are able to provide British Canoeing/Paddle UK certification, however this is at an additional cost.

    What’s next

With your full years membership you can continue paddling afterwards on club activities.  You may want to progress on to the Paddle Explore award.

    Course schedule

    1. Swimming pool session at Kingswood School to practice capsize drills -  Monday 24 June at 8.30 pm.
    2.  6 x river sessions every Thursday, 6.00 pm until 9.00 pm

For the river sessions you will be expected to arrive at the clubhouse by 6.00pm in order to be on the water for 6.30pm. We will be off the water by about 8.30pm with a debrief in the clubhouse and finish at 9.00pm.

It is most useful but not essential to do the pool session before any of the river sessions. If you wish to do this course but are unable to come to the scheduled pool session you will be welcome to attend any subsequent pool session(s).

THERE WILL BE NO CAR PARKING AT THE CLUBHOUSE ON RIVER NIGHTS, PLEASE ARRIVE ON FOOT or on 2 wheels.

    3. Learn practical skills such as paddling forward, turning and stopping… pretty much everything you need to get started and moving
    4. Staying safe on and off the water, you’ll learn about how to stay safe and make the most out of your paddle session
